The Memorial Society of Coastal Carolina was founded in 1998 to serve Southeastern North Carolina and Northeastern South Carolina.
Growing out of a core group, primarily members of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Wilmington, North Carolina, early presidents included Jewel Ann Dhien and Charlie West.
Over the years the group presented numerous community education programs including bringing authors of interest to the community.
In the mid-2000s the name was changed to Funeral Consumers Alliance Coastal Carolina.
